Are Black Women Un-Marriageable?

I'm a Black woman myself and this myth has been roaming around for quite some times.  I don't believe in statistics, particularly and do not appreciate being categorized as part of a crew of women that men don't want.  It's not true but can we do anything to  improve this myth or just ignore it and do what we do?  Please let's talk cordially about a topic that many Talk Shows (Oprah, Tyra, the past Ricky Lake Show) featured and I found it personally offensive but there were also Black women attesting to this.  Some said that they were too 'strong' for the men out here.  Let's share some dialogue on this disturbing so-called phenomena.

  1. Personally the statistics are put out there to scare us. Im sure there is a reality that depending on our age as Black women, many of our men are incarcerated, already married, gay, or confirmed bachelors. It depends on your perspective - personally I've decided to trust God for my mate, so I dont worry about statistics.

  2. Right. But regardless to age, according to these statistics, there are no men. A lot of much younger women are singing the same song and it's insane. There are young men out there in our culture that are as decent as the rest but get a bad rap because of what society focuses on. So in a way, we have bought into it.

  4. I think that it isn't the women it is the men and mostly black men in their minds they think it is cool to be baby daddy, pimp and playboys. They think it is a trap to be a husband it is like a child that don't want to go to sleep because they think they will miss something. And men run when the talk of marriage come up. so this make when have to change the game or settle for the man and not get the ring.

  5. Hey, those are good points little girl. It isn't us. But for people to just say that we are less likely to be married is insulting and just a statistic that we didn't take part in. You wonder where the numbers come from! Thanks.
